Weeks after gold was reportedly discovered in Eseka, Government visits the site and confirms the presence of gold in the locality.
The confirmation comes from the Secretary General at the Ministry of Mines, Industries and Technological development Dr Fuh Calistus Gentry as he visited some days ago the newly discovered Eseka gold site.
During his visit, the minister was quick to raise the need for this informal practitioners to organise themselves ” through cooperatives and thereafter getting the necessary right artisanal mining card(…) the law is clear whatever is found on the ground belongs to the state, so if i have a licence and your house is inside the gold area, we have to negotiate”
A meeting between the Dr Fuh Calistus and a delegation from the local population was held in view of examining various steps leading to all interested bodies participating in the mining business.
While talking to the CRTV a bunch of local gold diggers applauded Governments prescriptions and guidelines.
They also used the opportunity to stress on the important nature of the gold digging activity “ if there is enough production, you can have up till CFAF 300 000 a month, we pay rent to the proprietor of the gold site… he has 30% of my total cash, i live and feed my family thanks to this activity ”
