The government of Cameroon will disburse CFAF 26 Billion to make sure that urban transport infrastructures are ready for AFCON 2019.
The Minister of Housing and Urban development, Jean Claude Mbwentchou made the revelation last Dec 3, 2017, to the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly while defending the 2018 budget of his ministry (CFAF92.7 billion).
Business in Cameroon reveals that upon talking about the preparations ahead of the African Football Cup of Nations (CAN), the Minister indicated he was allocated a little more than FCA 26.18 billion for the “development of urban transport infrastructure”.
He added that a “special attention” will be brought to accelerate and end complete works at the Yaoundé-Nsimalen highway and parking around the new Olembé stadium (60.000 places) found in Yaoundé.
Also, part of funds allocated to the Ministry of Housing is meant for modernising urban areas and for improving infrastructures in around 30 other towns.
Jean Claude Mbwentchou added that a budget of FCA 1.6 billion has been allocated for the renovation of streets.
