The atmosphere this morning is that of uncertainty and fear following a “terrorist” attack that targeted police officials in Bamenda.
According to reports, a bomb exploded this Sept 21, 2017 at about 10a.m at the level of Hospital roundabout injuring 3 police officers on duty.
Cameroon News Today-CNT gathered that at the origin of the explosion was a gas bottle, connected to a Molotov cocktail and linked to a cell phone which upon detonation caused an unprecedented commotion around the spot.
The conclusion is contained in a report made public by the scientific unit of the Bamenda police unit which adds that the locally made explosive was detonated from a distance.
In an interview granted CRTV, the Governor of the Region, Adolph Lele L’Afrique revealed that judicial and administrative authorities are unanimous “it was a terrorist attack, with terror tactics and strategies aimed at disrupting the peace and harmony of the city”
The three police officers who were targeted in the attack are presently undergoing treatment at the Bamenda regional hospital.
Its worth it to recall that this is the 4th explosion occurring in the area in less than two weeks.
Even though no one has claimed responsibility yet for the attack, many believe it can be attributed to activists fighting for the secession of that part of the country.
The attack come exactly 24 hours to the speech that will be delivered by President Paul Biya at the United Nations General Assembly taking place in New York.
