A moment all have been waiting for finally comes, August 30 President Paul Biya orders the discontinuance of proceedings pending before the Yaoundé Military Tribunal against Nkohgho Felix Agbor, Fontem Aforteka’a Neba, Paul Ayah Abine and some persons arrested in connection to the violence perpetrated in recent months ,in the North West and South West regions of the country.
In view of this decision am tempted to say the President of the Republic is in line with the numerous procedures taken by government to address the concerns raised by teachers and lawyers in the Anglophone regions of the country.
However other view points may assume its a weakness of the President but rather it can be assessed from his zeal and continuous will to foster a sincere dialogue as a means to put at rest the dust that has sprinkled venoms of hate selfishness and division.
A point of note equally should be brought to book that the decision made by the President does not mean they were all innocent hence before their arrest they had made utterances and embarked on separatists ideas the threatened the existence of the nation and sparked tensions and some acts of violence perpetrated in the North West and South west regions.
Following Republican law they are charged with treason, which is against the state of Cameroon. The presidential announcement comes at a time when school resumption its at its doorsteps and the current crisis had seen the closure of schools since November 2016.
It should be recalled it all began as a teacher and lawyer’s affairs but was later hijacked by the outlawed consortium who have since imposed ghosts that have come with effects like the burning down of state and private structures when people fail to observe the ghost, of recent threats of lives has been a tool.
At this point one will say that the presidential clemency is a good timing drawing all the actors on the discussion table to properly look into and continue providing answers to the concerns raised .
To others the President has bowed to pressure but on the other hand being the highest authority of the land it is considered as an executive presidential order of the president in his capacity as the chief Judge of the land which many fail to understand.
To others still he has once a gain shown his fatherly love to his children and paved the way forward.
The Head of State has spoken its time for the actors to get to the field and look for ways to redress and adequately lay a foundation that will intensify our living together as one people of both systems, Anglophones and Francophones from a great nation.
